Delete From the App
You can delete your fomo — circles account yourself, at any time, in four steps:
- 1. Open fomo and go to your Profile tab.
- 2. Tap the settings icon in the top corner to open Settings.
- 3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
- 4. Confirm. You’ll be asked to tell us why (optional) and to confirm the deletion. Your account is deactivated the moment you confirm.
No email, form, or reply from us is required — the request takes effect immediately.
Request by Email
If you can’t sign in to your account — a lost phone number, a lost password, or a device you no longer have — email privacy@fomocircles.com from the email address on the account, or include the username you used on fomo.
We verify that the request comes from the account holder before acting on it, and we respond within 30 days.
What Happens Next
- Immediately — your account is deactivated and disappears from fomo. Your profile stops being visible to anyone, your display name and bio are cleared, your profile and banner photos are removed, and your username is released so it can be used again.
- For the next 30 days — your remaining data is held in a deactivated state in case you change your mind. Signing back in during this window restores your account.
- After 30 days — an automated job permanently and irreversibly deletes your data. This cannot be undone, and we cannot recover an account after it runs.
What Gets Deleted
When the 30-day period ends, the following are permanently deleted:
- Your profile — name, username, bio, email address, phone number, date of birth, profile and banner photos
- Your posts and media — posts, photos, videos, thumbnails, fliks, and captions
- Your thoughts and comments, everywhere they appear
- Your messages — one-to-one conversations are deleted entirely, and you are removed from any group conversations, along with your audio memos and any images you sent
- Your circles — circles you created are deleted along with their posts and folders; you are removed from circles belonging to other people
- Your connections and activity — follows in both directions, notifications, saved posts, and pending invitations
- Your identity verification documents, if you ever submitted them
- Your login itself — the account credentials are deleted, so the email address or phone number is free to be used for a new account
What We Keep, and For How Long
- An anonymized record of the deletion — kept indefinitely for fraud prevention and legal compliance. It contains no personal information: no name, email, phone number, or content, only that an account was deleted and when.
- Content created by other people — messages other members sent in group conversations, and their own posts, remain theirs and stay on fomo. Your name is removed from them.
- Accounts under a legal hold — if an account is subject to an active safety investigation, a report of harm, or a legal proceeding, we preserve the data beyond 30 days for as long as required, as permitted under GDPR Article 17(3)(e) and applicable law. This applies only to accounts under investigation.
- Backups — residual copies may persist in encrypted system backups for a limited period after deletion, and are overwritten on our normal backup cycle.
Delete Data Without Deleting Your Account
You don’t have to close your fomo — circles account to remove your data. You can delete individual content yourself, at any time, and it is removed from fomo when you do:
- Posts, photos, and videos — open the post, tap the ••• options button, and choose Delete.
- Thoughts, comments, and replies — tap the ••• menu on the item and choose Delete.
- Circles — leave a circle at any time, or delete a circle you created along with its posts.
- Profile details — your name, bio, photos, and other profile information can be changed or cleared in Settings.
For anything you can’t remove yourself, email privacy@fomocircles.com and tell us what you want deleted:
- Identity verification photos — deleted within 7 days of your request. They are otherwise deleted automatically 30 days after your verification is reviewed.
- Any other personal data — we verify the request comes from the account holder and respond within 30 days.
Deleting individual content does not affect the rest of your account, and none of it starts the account-deletion process described above.
