Privacy.
It’s the point of fomo™.
fomo was built for sharing with your people, not with everyone. Every feature starts with the same question: who should be able to see this?
Your circles, not the world.
You choose exactly which circles see each post. Your circles are private by default; you choose what’s public.
No AI watching your feed.
Your circle feed is newest first, not ranked by AI, and we never train AI on your photos, videos or messages.
You hold the keys.
Your private chats and circles can be end-to-end encrypted, and so can 1-on-1 calls in an encrypted chat. The app shows when something is. The keys live on your phones; if you back them up with a PIN, we hold only a locked copy that your PIN opens.
Out in the open.
We tell you plainly what we collect and why. Our policy is written to be read.
Circles
Share with your people. You choose who.
Every post goes to the circles you pick, and only people in those circles can see it in fomo. Make a circle private and every new member needs your approval before they get in, even when a friend sends the invite. Post to a public circle and anyone who joins it can see the post.
You decide who joins.
Members can invite friends. You approve or decline every request.
Saving is off by default.
Choose post by post whether your circle can save it to their phone.
Tags are up to you.
Turn off tagging and nobody can add you to their posts.
Screenshots
Screenshots come out blank.
On iPhone, screenshots and screen recordings of fomo come out black, and fomo lets people know someone tried. Open Screenshot activity to see who. On Android, screenshots of fomo are blocked.
No app can stop someone from pointing a second camera at a screen. Share with people you trust.
Fliks
Here today. Gone tomorrow.
Fliks are made for the moment. They’re deleted from our servers about 24 hours after you send them, whether anyone watched or not.
Privacy settings
One switch to disappear.
Ghost Mode turns off your public profile, your activity status, circle invites and tagging, all at once, and hides you from search, even for people in your circles. Or fine-tune each one yourself. Ghost Mode doesn’t hide profile visits: if you open someone’s profile, fomo may show them that you visited.
Shown with Ghost Mode on. Settings → Privacy in the fomo app.
Transparency
Nothing happens behind your back.
See who stopped by.
Find out who’s been viewing your profile.
See who tried.
A list of who attempted to capture what you shared.
In the order it happened.
Your circle feed shows posts newest first. No AI ranking.
End-to-end encryption
Locked on your phone. Open only on theirs.
With fomo 8.5 or later, your direct messages, group chats and private circles can be end-to-end encrypted, and so can 1-on-1 calls in an encrypted chat. Group-chat and circle calls are end-to-end encrypted only when the call says so. fomo stores and delivers them, and its call servers carry calls, in a form that neither we nor our service providers can read. Public circles, including FOMO Official, aren’t encrypted, because anyone can join them.
Chats, circles and calls.
Direct messages, group chats with up to 100 members, and private circles with up to 150 members: their chats, posts, Fliks, Thoughts and comments, scheduled posts included, when encryption is on for them (the app shows when it is). Plus 1-on-1 calls in an encrypted chat. Group-chat and circle calls are end-to-end encrypted only when the call says so.
Checked for you.
In a 1-on-1 chat, fomo checks every device automatically and warns you if one joins that it can’t confirm. You can also compare a safety number. Checks for groups and circles come later.
A PIN only you know.
Protect your backup with a PIN or a 64-character recovery key. We never see either one. A PIN can be guessed by someone with access to our systems; a recovery key can’t.
Who and when. Not what.
Who is in a chat or circle, who sent something to whom and when, reactions, poll votes, read and delivery receipts, and counts. Never what’s inside an encrypted message, post or call.
Checked on your phone.
Before an encrypted photo or video is posted, the poster’s phone checks it, and sensitive ones are blurred for viewers. We see only the result, never the photo.
The only ways we look.
Reporting a message shares it, and up to five before it, with our safety team. Reporting an encrypted post, Flik, comment or Thought shares what you opened. Asking us to review your own post that was marked sensitive sends us a copy only if you agree.
Your information
Your stuff isn’t for sale.
We don’t sell your personal information. Ads help keep fomo free, but advertisers never get your name, email, phone number, photos or messages. On iPhone, you choose whether apps can track you.
Your address book stays on your phone.
fomo only looks at contacts when you choose to invite someone, and never uploads the list.
Never trained on you.
We don’t use your photos, videos or messages to train AI. Ever.
Never recorded.
Calls are encrypted in transit, and end-to-end encrypted only when the call says so. fomo doesn’t record them. We keep a record of who called whom, and when, for up to 90 days.
Protected in storage and in transit.
Your data is encrypted on its way to our servers and while it’s stored.
Leave whenever you want.
Delete your account in the app. You get 30 days to change your mind, then we delete it, keeping only a minimal record for legal and safety purposes, which we delete 1 year later.
Safety
A safer place, by design.
Adults only.
fomo is for people 18 and older.
One tap to block.
Report any post, message or person. Three separate reports in 30 days suspends an account pending review.
Blurred until you choose.
Sensitive media is hidden behind a warning you have to tap to see.
Privacy is a promise.
We take it personally.
